The situation
Weeztix, the ticketing platform, and Elockers, the provider of lockers for events, moved into a building in Amsterdam together: two office floors and a warehouse. Two organisations with their own systems and requirements, but with the same wish: one network that works the same throughout the building, without duplicate equipment and without one disturbing the other.
There was an extra requirement. Weeztix had recently acquired Sjef, which brought a lot of work on event point-of-sale systems: in the warehouse, payment terminals and POS systems are prepared and updated in large numbers before they go to a festival. That causes temporary peak loads on the connection, and those were not allowed to affect staff in the office.
What we did
- An FTTO fibre connection from Eurofiber for the whole building, with the capacity to carry updates of hundreds of POS systems next to regular office traffic.
- A completely new network: firewall, four PoE switches and more than ten access points across the two floors and the warehouse.
- One set of hardware and one connection for both companies, separated at network level. Weeztix and Elockers do not see each other's traffic, and the warehouse traffic from POS updates sits in its own segment with its own priority.
- Reuse of existing cabling where possible, to save cost and work.
- Phased implementation, because the two companies took the building into use at different times.
What was hard
The existing cabling runs entirely through the floor. Pulling new cables to the ceiling would have meant opening up floors. So we chose wall-mounted access points, connected to the existing floor outlets, and designed the coverage around that. The result is a network that reaches the same coverage without any demolition.
Management
We manage the network together with the client. Weeztix and Elockers look into the management environment themselves and handle small matters on their own. When they get stuck or want advice, they call us. Thanks to an existing partnership in other areas the lead time was short and installation could start quickly.
The result
Two companies work in one building on one network without getting in each other's way. The warehouse can prepare hundreds of POS systems at once while the office simply carries on.
