Maritime
Private 5G, managed Wi-Fi and a managed firewall for ports, shipyards and vessels, built on a stable inbound connection.
Introduction
Connected and secure
In the maritime sector everything happens outdoors, between steel and water, often where a fixed line cannot be taken for granted. Yet everyone on board and on the quay expects the network to simply work: for operations, sensors, cameras and the crew. We deliver a stable inbound connection and build a private 5G network or managed Wi-Fi on top of it, protected by a managed firewall. Designed on measurements taken on site, managed by engineers who know the environment.
From port and shipyard to vessel and offshore site: we provide a connection that stays up, a network that covers the site and security that grows with you. How we realise the connection depends on the location; we prefer to discuss that in person.
Challenges
Do these challenges sound familiar?
These challenges call for a connection you can rely on, radio engineering that copes with steel and water, and remote management because there is rarely an IT department on board.
- The connection is the foundation
- Without a stable inbound connection nothing works on board or on the quay. We make sure it is there and keep an eye on it, including at locations without a fixed line.
- Steel and water eat signal
- Hulls, cranes and container stacks block and reflect radio signal. A sound design starts with a site survey and the right frequencies and antenna positions.
- The site changes every day
- Today's open quay is full tomorrow. Private 5G covers a site with few antennas and keeps working when the surroundings change.
- Crew, guests and operations kept apart
- Navigation, sensors and administration do not belong on the same network as the crew's phones. A managed firewall and separate Wi-Fi handle that without anyone on board having to maintain it.
- No IT department on board
- Faults have to be seen and fixed remotely. Management and monitoring from our NOC keep the network up while the vessel sails or the yard keeps working.
- Salt, wind and rain
- Outdoor equipment has to withstand salt water, wind and temperature swings. We choose enclosures and mounting made for that and record it in the documentation.
