Events and festivals

Temporary internet, Wi-Fi for crew and visitors, payments and tills, streaming and production.

Introduction

Connected and secure

An event site is a city built in three days. Payments, production, streaming, visitors and security all need connectivity, and nobody has time to wait. This is the work we do most right now.

Under the name Virtical Event Networking we built the networks of festivals and events across the Netherlands. That experience is in every design: an uplink that is there before the build starts, separated networks for payments, production and visitors, and an engineer who stays on site.

Challenges

Do these challenges sound familiar?

Each of these challenges asks for a connection that is there before the event starts and keeps working until the last visitor has left.

No fixed line on site
A field or car park has no fibre. The connection has to come in via microwave, satellite or bonded mobile links.
Peak load on payments
Thousands of transactions in a short time while visitors saturate the mobile network. Payments belong on their own separated network.
Built in days, not weeks
The organiser's schedule is fixed. The network has to grow with the build and be ready before suppliers arrive.
Production, streaming and security at once
Light, sound, cameras, streaming and access control each have their own demands on capacity and latency.
Changing sites
Every edition is different: another layout, other suppliers, other weather. The design has to adapt fast.
Nobody has time to wait
During an incident at the event every minute counts. An engineer who knows the network has to be on site.
